Alpine Shop in Kirkwood, Missouri, about 20 minutes West of St. Louis hosted our third Local stop of the season. We enjoy bringing the niche sport we love to new parts of the country and with half of the field being new to kayak fishing tournaments in general, we were able to do just that.
A field of twelve anglers hit the water Saturday morning with a “lines in” local time of 6:21 AM. Within ten minutes, Cody Green who fished our Garfield, Arkansas event a week earlier had a fish on the board!
Cody Green 3rd Place
Cody ended his day in third place, Jack Donze finished second and Joe Herbert took home the victory and big bass. In addition to prizes provided by Alpine Shop, all three anglers took home Series Points which will definitely come in handy while fishing their way to River Basser of the Year honors. Cody needs just one moreevent to be in contention.
Perhaps the biggest story of the day was the generosity of the anglers who as a group donated $740 which will be split between Paddle4Tomorrow and Team River Runner (St. Louis) which are both fantastic non-profit organizations focused on getting folks out on the water. Select events have a prize drawing for a Jackson Kayak and this tournament was one of them. Brad Hagen of St. Louis, MO, a member of the Missouri Smallmouth Alliance, won a 2015 Jackson Cuda 12. Big thanks to all of the folks who pitched in to make this prize drawing possible including Jackson Kayak, Alpine Shop and our two charitable causes.
The fishing proved to be fairly challenging but all in all, it was a great day and hopefully a few new anglers will be out there fishing rivers for bass in the St. Louis area. Big thanks to the anglers who made their way to Kirkwood and of course Emily, Rich and the rest of the team at Alpine Shop for being such great hosts. We’ll see everyone back there next June!
