Parkersburg and the surrounding areas are in abundance of paddling friendly waterways and we hope that you can pick one of the many great rivers and streams to enjoy some of the fine fishing they have to offer.
There are two major rivers that confluence within a stone’s throw of Lapping the Couch Adventures where the event and “weigh-in” will be held. We will cover those two and then highlight some of the main tributaries of each.
The first up is the Little Kanawha River. The LK drains most of central WV and winds its way through the mountain state to where it eventually dumps in and confluences at the Ohio River in Parkersburg. The LK has an abundance of fishing opportunities but is most noted for its excellent smallmouth and musky fishing. However the farther up you go on the river the more abundance of smallmouth you will find. At the confluence and lower reaches one can expect to mainly score a bag of largemouth and spotted bass.
Some notable tributaries of the Little Kanawha that offer the same type of fishing experience are as following: Hughes River (largest tributary), Worthington Creek, Walker Creek, Reedy Creek, And Tygart Creek.
And not last but least the mighty Ohio River which helps make up the state of WV’s western border. It is filled with all types of game fish and provides ample “big” River kayak bass opportunities. You could fish along its banks or try out some of the island opportunities found near Parkersburg. The many backwaters off the main river can also provide some excellent bass fishing. There are many notable tributaries off of this system. Some of the main ones are as follows: Hocking River, Shade River, Sand Creek, Mill Creek, The Little Hocking River, Muskingum River, The Little Muskingum, and Middle Island Creek. There are several others as well just find you a map or pull up google earth and perhaps you may just find that winning spot!
All of us at Lapping the Couch Outfitters and the River Bassin’ Tournament Trail are looking forward to seeing you here in Parkersburg, WV and sharing our waters with you. Best of luck and happy paddling!
